About Us

 History

Shoshong Senior Secondary School is located approximately 44 km west of Mahalapye.  It derives its name from the village Shoshong.  The school meticulously stands on the southern tip of the village and purveys itself as the icon of rural development in the village.  Survival here has been at a price with the village water reticulation system unable to serve the school on several occasions resulting in the closure of the school.

The school opened its doors in 1994, to ten classes of form 3s.  Then it was housed in Ledumang Senior Secondary School alongside the host and Ghanzi Senior Secondary School, for construction of at the latter two was far behind schedule.  It was only on independence eve that year when the school moved campus to the hitherto.  The new site, only one classroom Block A, and Dormitory C, where Malebadi boys are housed, were complete.  Through thick and thin the pioneers of the school thrived and survived to see the school as it is today.

The school is an octopus with no defined catchments area of its own.  It has graced admitting students as far as Kgalagadi and Kweneng Districts to mention only but a few.  Admitting such a varied intake is borne on the fact that the school offers boarding facilities second to none, hence it must absorb students from which ever part there is surplus.                     

 

As such, the school community is multi tribal and multinational; hence it reflects Botswana’s rich cultural background.  This unity in diversity has been at a social cost, with the school embroiled in student disturbances on several occasions, which over time are becoming a thing of the past.  It has an enrolment of roughly 1400 students, about 700 a form.

Given its mixed fortune past, the school endeavors to deliver quality service to its clientele by instilling discipline, high morale and pursuit of goal driven undertakings, by both students and members of the staff.  It also undertakes to provide a conducive atmosphere to gender parity, unity in diversity, self realization and actualization.
